Flipkart Group-owned online B2B marketplace Flipkart Wholesale said that the company will be appointing over 5,000 employees of Walmart India.
In late July 2020, Flipkart Group had acquired Walmart India’s wholesale business (Walmart India Pvt. Ltd.).
With this development, The new 5,000 employees will take on new roles in the company. Flipkart said the job offers made to employees at Walmart India have been aligned to corresponding roles at Flipkart in terms of compensation, responsibility, and profiles based on industry best practices.
Apart from their current compensation, transitioning employees will also be allowed to participate in Flipkart Wholesale’s ESOP plan and will be assigned a performance bonus structure, Flipkart said in a statement.
The announcement comes after consultation with external HR experts and in-line with future organizational planning.
The step would help Flipkart Wholesale to strengthen its supply chain and further expand its footprint in the food and grocery segment. While the company also aims to add product categories such as homeware and kitchen.
At present, Walmart has 28 best price stores across 28 locations, including Jammu, Jalandhar, Agra, Bhopal, and others.

In September 2020, Flipkart Wholesale announced its expansion to 12 new cities, including Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Mysore, Chandigarh Tricity, Meerut, Agra, Jaipur, Thane-Bhiwandi-Ulhasnagar, Greater Mumbai, Vasai-Virar-Mira-Bhayanadar, Thane (Kalyan-Dombivli), and Thane (Navi Mumbai).
Currently, Flipkart Wholesale is present in more than 23 cities.
