Weaving Culture Into Clutches: The Story Behind Clutch Craft
Ajeta Singh, founder of Clutch Craft, blends heritage and modern fashion with handcrafted accessories. By empowering 300+ artisans, her brand promotes ethical design and preserves India's rich crafts.

In a fast-paced world dominated by factory-made fashion and fleeting trends, one woman’s mission stands out like a thread of gold in a handwoven tapestry. Meet Ajeta Singh, the creative force behind Clutch Craft, a brand that’s redefining fashion by stitching together heritage, artistry, and conscious design.
With over 15 years of experience in the retail industry and a foundation in fashion design, Ajeta’s professional journey was one built on observing trends, understanding consumer behavior, and working closely with products. But deep within, she carried a vision that went beyond clothing racks and sales numbers—a vision to tell untold stories through handcrafted accessories and give traditional Indian crafts the global stage they deserve.
"I always felt there was a disconnect—a visible gap between the rich world of Indian handicrafts and the accessories that filled the modern fashion space," Ajeta explains. “Clutch Craft was born to bridge that very gap.”

The Spark That Started It All
The turning point came when Ajeta realized that while India was overflowing with rich artistic traditions, the world of contemporary accessories hardly reflected this heritage. Fashion was moving too fast to honor craft. At the same time, the artisans behind these crafts were struggling—not only to find markets for their work, but often, just to survive.
“It wasn’t just about creating something beautiful,” she shares. “It was about creating something meaningful. Something that would uplift the artisans, preserve age-old skills, and offer consumers a chance to own a piece of culture.”
Clutch Craft took its first steps with a powerful purpose: to celebrate handmade artistry, revive forgotten crafts, and create sustainable livelihoods for traditional artisans across India.

Craft Meets Couture: What Clutch Craft Offers
Clutch Craft specializes in handcrafted clutches, handbags, and fashion accessories that are as unique as the people who carry them. Each product is a beautiful intersection of old and new—where ancient techniques like zardozi, kantha, banjara embroidery, and mirror work meet minimalist, functional designs that suit today’s wardrobe.
“We’re not just selling a bag. We’re telling a story—woven into every stitch, every bead, every motif,” Ajeta emphasizes.
From vibrant festive clutches to subtle everyday handbags, every piece is crafted by hand and carries the legacy of a specific region. The brand collaborates directly with artisan clusters across states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha, ensuring not only fair wages and ethical practices, but also emotional and cultural respect for the craft itself.

Overcoming Hurdles and Building Bridges
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. One of the biggest challenges Ajeta faced was connecting with authentic artisans—those deeply rooted in traditional practices, many of whom lived in remote villages and had never worked with fashion houses before.
“Finding the artisans was one part of the challenge,” Ajeta says. “Building trust, understanding their craft processes, and co-creating products that preserved authenticity while appealing to modern aesthetics was a whole different journey.”
Through consistent efforts, workshops, and grassroots collaboration, Clutch Craft has now grown into a vibrant network of over 300 artisans—each of whom plays a vital role in the brand’s success and creative identity.
The Breakthrough: Going from Local to Global
A key milestone for Clutch Craft came when the brand began supplying to major retailers and expanding into export markets. This wasn’t just about growth—it was proof that the market was ready for ethical, artisan-made fashion.
“That moment was magical,” Ajeta recalls. “We started as a small venture with a big dream. Seeing our products on retail shelves and getting international orders showed us that the dream was not only valid—but vital.”

Looking Ahead: A Vision Rooted in Purpose
Ajeta’s plans for Clutch Craft are ambitious yet deeply grounded. Over the next five years, she envisions the brand being available across all major retail formats in India and abroad. But beyond the commercial success, her true goal is to continue preserving crafts, empowering artisans, and educating consumers about the value of handmade products.
“The future of fashion is not just about trends. It’s about meaning, sustainability, and stories,” she says with passion. “And we’re here to make sure those stories never fade.”
