124 years of unwavering devotion to Maa Durga!

A remarkable family from Katras, Dhanbad, Jharkhand, has upheld the sacred tradition of Durga Puja since 1901, started by the late Banga Chandra Chowdhury and the late Surendra Chandra Chowdhury. This century-old tradition began with a divine dream in which the late Shri Surendra Chandra Chowdhury had a vision of Maa Durga, instructing him to begin the worship. Since then, the family has continued this custom with deep reverence.

124 years of unwavering devotion to Maa Durga!

The idol is uniquely crafted at home by ancestral artisans, featuring a distinct arrangement - Lord Kartik is placed in Lord Ganesha’s position, and Ganesha in Kartik’s, as seen in the divine vision of Maa Durga by Surendra Chandra Chowdhury.

Today, the 3rd and 4th generation of the family - Shri Dev Kumar Chowdhury, Shri Somnath Chaudhary, Shri Anshuman Choudhary and other family members - proudly carry on this sacred tradition. "Though many members of the family now work across India and abroad, they all come together during Durga Puja to worship Maa Durga. This festival is not just a celebration for us; it is a 124-year-old symbol of faith, devotion, family tradition," said Shri Dev Kumar Chowdhury.
